France, get “New York” right!

9 Nov

Today I was walking around Grenoble during lunchtime and noticed a “Menu USA” at Brioche Dorée on rue de Bonne. You can either get a New York or a Chicago style sandwich. I got excited for a second: New York = Reuben sandwich! Yes! I LOVE reubens and cannot find them anywhere here (nor can I find some of the main ingredients: corned beef, pastrami, Russian dressing…). The last time I had one was when I ordered a reuben wrap in SoHo during my lunch break back in April (yes, when I was actually allowed to work!).

So what’s a New York at B.D.? It’s grilled bacon, cheddar, egg and salad on a bagel. Look, I can get a bagel sandwich any day at The Cake Shop, if I actually liked bagels. You want to taste New York in a sandwich? Eat a reuben! Just one bite and I can practically see my German and Eastern European ancestors nodding in approval.

@ Brioche Dorée: If you’re reading; I am without a job and can make you richer! It’s okay, for now I give you an “E” for Effort.

Yikes! I don’t know about that combination of things on their New York sandwich, LOL As a Jersey girl, I share your love of the Reuben – I’m getting hungry just thinking about one! My all-time favorite sandwich, though, is something similar – a sloppy joe. Triple decker roast beef, cole slaw, swiss cheese, Russian dressing on rye broad…perfection!

Haha… I was talking about Sloppy Joe’s the other day. I’ve been craving them too. But, I think I could manage making one here at least! Oh man.. I think I’m going to have to go for it soon! Your Sloppy Joe sounds heavenly! Rye bread- cannot find that here though!
