Grenobloise est Versatile !

Many moons ago (that is, January 2012) I was nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award. As many of you reading this may know by now, when awarded with The Versatile Blogger you share 7 facts about yourself and pass on the award to fellow bloggers.

Instead of sharing random facts about myself I am sharing my top 7 favorite lunch spots in Grenoble!

my lunch to go from OBIOXO

1.) OBIOXO: I go to this place almost everyday. The wraps are amazing; I usually get a chicken wrap with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, hummus, persil and sunflower seeds with a light sauce (EUR 5,20). There are cheese options too. For a lunch complet I also get a piece of their gâteau marbré or a fromage blanc. They also have delicious salads, tarts, shakes (with soy or cow milk) and more!  Everything is 100% organic and the woman who works there is welcoming and a joy to talk to. You can eat there or take your food to go (the Jardin de Ville is nearby if you want to picnic!).

The sushi train @ La Gallery

2.) La Gallery: une rue gourmande avec sept espaces de restauration (source)! From sushi, to sandwiches and salads, soups, a wok bar, pasta dishes and a variety of French desserts, La Gallery is a like an underground street dedicated to Lunch! A Grenoblois lunch experience you must not miss! À ne pas louper !

3.) The Sushi Shop: this is another spot I frequent for lunch, especially when I desire sushi to go (it’s to go or delivery only). Their lunch special comes with two sides (IE: miso soup + cucumber salad) and their sushi is delicious. I must also mention the handsome young men who work there who are very friendly. We end up chatting about France and/or New York for 5-10 minutes every time I am there. And they always remember my name (the way a Frenchman pronounces my name is like music to my ears).

Pho!

4.) Restaurant Vietnamien DÂU: I discovered this restaurant about a week ago and I’ve been there 3 times already. That pretty much says it all. I’ve heard from people who have been to Vietnam that this is authentic-tasting Phở. You can get a large bowl of this luscious Vietnamese soup for a healthy, filling lunch (EUR 7,50). There are also many other delicacies to try on their extensive menu. If you’re into Asian cooking there’s a great supermarket for it right across the street.

5.) Le Mix: Whether for lunch or dinner, this place is yet another must. Le Mix offers high-quality food inspired by a variety of different countries. You pick the kind of meat/poultry/fish you would like (the marinated meat is a dream) and then choose from one of their 3 sides (including a USA-inspired gratin dauphinois with *sweet potatoes* which is oh-so-comforting or a palatable pad thai that one can never get enough of!). Did I mention their tiramisu poire speculoos? You can thank me later.

La “Corvette”

6.) So Krep: What’s a Top 7 lunch list without a crêperie? You thought I would forget?!  Pour qui me prenezvous ? This has been my crêpe spot for a year now! It used to be called La MarieMorgane, and thankfully the food is similar. It’s just even better than before (including a lovely variety of teas as well as organic cidre). The crêpes are named after boats, and “La Corvette” is one of my faves. For whatever taste you have, you will most likely be able to find said crêpe. Vive la bretagne et ses crêpes ! They also have a variety of salads. In addition: you may sit outside and overlook the charming place Notre Dame with its cute palm trees and old Cathedral.

7.) For number 7 on my list, I want to cheat and give a shout out to both Mei Shan and Viva Mexico. I feel like it’s good to include a good Chinese stir-fry option, but also a fresh Mexican burrito/taco place especially since the summer’s coming and people should know where to get their tropical on. See my post on Mei Shan here and Viva Mexico here.

Régalez-vous bien ! I’m sure there are many more great places to have lunch in Grenoble. If you have any recommendations feel free to add them in the comments. A Grenoble food guide is to come.

Now time to pass on the Versatile Blogger Award to 7 people! Most of the French expat blogs I read have already received this award, so this list below is going to be particularly versatile! These are all blogs I read regularly.

Life in Marakesh – A multilingual and multicultural Moroccan mom’s heartfelt stories from one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The Perpetual Passenger – An American girl pursuing a career in the City of Lights. Many adventures to be read about here!

On (or Close) to Schedule – Logan’s blog is like soul food. Blogging from the Upper West Side (Manhattan), his life observations and advice are wise and thoughtful. I have been following this blog since my early teens!

Emilie and Léa’s Secrets – A French-language foodie blog by two French women who live in Grenoble! Whoop-whoop! The recipes in this blog and its gorgeous photos will have you salivating within 30 seconds, guaranteed! I have been lucky enough to have had food personally prepared by one of these lovely ladies (I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming)!

Du Coté de Chez Laët – Born and raised in Grenoble (whoop-whoop encore une fois!) this French-language blog is by a personal friend of mine who covers many interesting topics. She also happens to be an incredible cuisinière and is hilarious!

The adventures of an American blonde in France – Andromeda and I are kindred spirits, I feel. We are both Americans involved in the arts and trying to find a career in France in said field. She is quite a bit ahead of me so I find her blog very helpful! It’s also an enjoyable read. She probably doesn’t know that I read her these days due to the commenting problems between WordPress and Blogger!

Books, cupcakes and cats chasing chipmunks… – I have just recently discovered this blog! It’s a French girl’s American life as a New Yorker. How appealing! There are a lot of foodie posts (recipes included) as well as NYC tales! It’s also bilingual English/French! I am so happy that she stumbled upon my blog.

Ça y est !

Ah ah ! Donc tu aimes Sushi Shop !

Congratulations! You deserve it! And thanks for exposing me to new blogs! That is my favorite part of these awards, is passing on blogger love and discovering blogs that I would have otherwise not read.

I’m jealous of your French fan base! It pays off to have a bilingual blog! : )

    Congrats again! xo.

Thanks Ella! Yes, I am so happy to be able to share some of my favorite blogs on here! I am trying to keep it bilingual — this post was too long to translate though. I think most of my French readers are personal friends here in the Alps. 🙂

Hi there, I am also an American (New Yorker) living in Grenoble and have sad news to share. Viva Mexico no longer exists. They now serve typical Grenoble fast food- kebabs and the like. I am also a blogger- if you are interested! http://www.grubtrotting.com

Your blog looks amazing. I will be checking it out stat.

I’m so sad to hear about Viva Mexico. I haven’t been there in some time and was looking forward to going there soon! I wonder what happened. 🙁

A French friend sent me a link to your blog in January (and I have been following you since the) but I don’t know how he originally discovered it. I have been meaning to contact you but have been so busy. :(. I have been here for 2 years but am leaving in 5 days!
Thank you so much for complementing my blog, I really appreciate it. As I’m sure you already know, it’s been a lot of working learning how to use WordPress and navigating my way around here. I think that I have nearly learned everything (but probably not). Would you like to link our blogs?
I wish you the best in Grenoble- let me know if you have any questions.

Wow, thanks! You’ll read soon about my new detour from the arts, but I know I’ll get back to it eventually. And in the meantime, other creative hobbies will keep that part of me satisfied 🙂 I just checked my comment settings, and I changed it to openID not just google. Maybe that will work!

Again, I can relate as I am looking into jobs that detour from the arts as well! I also have had similar anxiety that you talk about on your blog and hoping it will get better after I accomplish more and get both my feet on French ground. I didn’t feel like I “existed” much in this past year in France and the blog was a nice distraction from a lot of the emotional distress I’ve been experiencing (won’t get into the details here). I’m glad that my comments work now! I’m glad that you’ll be blogging more often too. 🙂

Yes you should visit Grenoble when you’re in France. Let me know if you do! 😉

Pas de souci – I feel funny being congratulated for this sort of thing. I don’t feel like it’s much of an accomplishment; more like an opportunity to show off other great blogs. There is such a wonderful community out there in the blogosphere and I’m glad to finally make a post that involved other people. I wish I had the time to post more (and to read and comment on other blogs)!

Thank you so much you two. I always have my eyes on faraway lands myself, but don’t actually get to travel very far from the Alps! We fall in love with more and more places around the world the more we travel, at least I do… so now that I’m in Europe I dream of Asia, Africa and the Americas (& NYC of course!). When in NYC I dream of here and other places far from there.. It’s always good to get out of the daily norm when you get the chance! Hopefully you’ll both have a long vacation in the future to fulfill your travelling wishes!
