Pokémon GO en France !!!

Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game which enables users to wander around in real environments to capture monsters (Pokémon). To play, you just need a Smartphone and an internet connection. It uses both the GPS and camera function of your phone. Pokémon GO is completely free, but you can purchase items in the game, via coins, if you wish. The game was developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices and it officially launched in the USA, Australia and New Zealand on July 6th. I imagine you’ve caught some of the buzz of this game so far via various news sites! It’s quite an exciting game and one which does not lack controversy! The game has now officially launched in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal as well. Up next: Japan and… FRANCE ! Pokémon Go is officially launching in France TODAY, July 21st (perhaps as I type this) !

Catching invisible monsters in Grenoble. ^^

Vocabulaire utile :

Useful vocab:

  • PokéStop : A non-commercial spot (unless sponsored) symbolized by blue cubes; often a historic detail (such as a statue or monument) and/or a particularly eccentric detail of the street you’re on. Here you can gather much needed PokéBalls, eggs, Razz Berries, potions and incense.
  • Lure Module: “A module that attracts Pokémon to a PokeStop for 30 minutes. Other people around the PokéStop can also benefit from the effect.” When you see large swarms of people in one little spot playing this game, they are probably at a lured PokéStop! (See my silly photos below).
  • Gyms: Train your Pokémon and compete in gyms to earn coins and gain strength.
  • Team yellow (Instinct), blue (Mystic) and red (Valor) : These are the three teams in the game. Choose wisely as you cannot change your mind once you’ve decided.

Lures are represented by pink petals in the game. These were actual lure spots, so I added in the petals afterwards via Photoshop. 🙂

;-P // There are far too many Hitmanlees in Jardin de Ville. ;-P

Pokémon GO was supposed to by released in France on July 15th, but was postponed due to the horrible attack in Nice on the 14th. But, you could still find and download the game with little effort.  If you have walked around your town in France these days, you may have noticed the numerous players around town.[/column]

Des Pokémon // Some Pokémon

13718759_1232781200096016_4045484248838446386_n

Some Pokémon are found everywhere. Others are hard to come across. Water types are found near the water, electric types in cities, land types in the countryside or in large parks, etc. Certain cities and certain parts of a city are known for having certain Pokémon.

Avez-vous joué Pokémon GO? Pensez-vous y jouer ? Qu’est-ce que vous pensez du jeu ? Dites-moi dans les commentaires !

I am personally a fan of the game, especially due to its social aspect. I can talk to new people every hour I play it and I’ve met a lot of people so far. As an expat, this is especially cool, as we often find ourselves more alone than usual. There’s a huge gathering in Grenoble this Saturday in fact. Have you played Pokémon GO? Are you planning on playing? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
